It's the impulse behind My Heart—Christ's Home, a little booklet by Robert Boyd Munger that for more than fifty years has helped countless people to grasp the idea of surrendering their lives to God. Originally preached as a sermon, the story made its way into several print editions and has inspired much further reflection about the nature of discipleship by succeeding generations of pastors and writers.

In this volume, you'll find some of the fruit of Munger's labors. A broad field of Christian writers have lent their voices to the idea of what it would be like to have Jesus as a houseguest. It's our hope you'll find a comfortable spot in your own home to settle in and let their observations and reflections minister to you.

The devotions are organized into weeks that correspond with different spaces in the typical home. For example, in the study we look at how we submit our minds to the lordship of Christ, in the dining room we look at how we control our appetites and desires while feeding our souls, and in the family room (found in the gift edition of My Heart–Christ's Home) we experience God's work in our family life. We have also extended Munger's metaphor and added two new rooms: the back porch, which is the place of hospitality, mission and evangelism, and the attic, which is a place for memories. Here and there throughout the devotional you will also find excerpts from My Heart–Christ's Home.

Each season of the year takes the reader once through the entire house, from opening the door to Jesus, to transferring the title into his hands. Each week includes six devotions by various contributors, providing a passage from Scripture and a guide toward your own reflection. You may be encouraged to pray, to reflect, to journal, to act. We choose to offer six entries each week rather than seven, assuming that you will use at least one day a week for worshiping God with his gathered people in your church—and also for a built-in bit of grace, as circumstances do sometimes infringe on our devotional time. You might use the seventh day to go back to some of the suggestions at the end of each devotional entry.

The enduring appeal of My Heart–Christ's Home is its promise: When we open our hearts to Jesus, he gladly enters and takes up residence.
